• The baby should be placed at the breast as quickly as possible post birth right inside the delivery room. It is to be ensured that the practitioner poses no objection to nursing in the birthing room if all is normal.
• Newborns generally crawl up to mother's breast from her abdomen and start breast feeding on their own. Ideally, this process will happen within an hour or so. The mother and baby should be spared this time together to build skin to skin contact which ensures the baby is kept warm and baby gets ample opportunity to self attach to mother's nipple.
